Our client is a leading company in the residential home construction and development industry. They are currently looking for a Project Accountant who will be responsible for performing the day-to-day accounting tasks as it relates to specific projects.

About the Opportunity
  • Using prescribed tools, prepare cost to date and cost to complete reports.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations; record journal entries to record loan, interest, draws, deposits, and bank charges, while managing cash receipts and disbursements.
  • Prepare statement of adjustments for closings and record closing journal entries.
  • Record trust deposits once confirmation of deposit received from the legal department and reconcile trust deposits on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare and file HST returns and assist in responding to inquiries from CRA regarding HST reviews, audits and any other related matters; follow up on outstanding ITC refunds.
  • Ensure government filings related to projects (T5018) are prepared and filed.
  • Prepare management fee calculation and reconcile to management fee tracker.
  • Prepare margin reports for revolving loans to submit to financial institutions.
  • Organize and review cheque runs for accuracy and timeliness, validate contents and identify cash requirements.
  • Ensure funding is available before releasing cheques and communicate with Accounts Payable Manager to release cheques.
  • Transfer funds and make payments as required via online banking; obtain approvals for transactions.
  • Review and reconcile purchaser deposits and enter cash receipts.
  • Respond to inquiries from purchasers for refunds of property taxes and grading deposits.
  • Review and reconcile broker commission payable to 3rd party and internal sales agents.
  • Review and reconcile merchant account transactions and record upgrade deposits.
  • Review and book accruals based on discussions with AP coordinators and project managers.
  • Prepare funding cash calls for various projects and prepare financial statements and cash flow forecasts.
  • Correspond and collect information for financial statement audits.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reporting package for monthly internal meetings and assist with various accounting functions as necessary.
About You
  • CPA completed or in progress
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience in real estate development environment.
  • Experience with NewStar; advanced skills in excel and word.

Salary Range
$80,000 - $90,000/year
