Payroll Specialist - 3+ Months to Permanent

About the Opportunity  

  • Responsible for the preparation and processing of weekly site payroll for approximately 60 salaried and union employees and bi-weekly payroll for approximately 60 head office full time and salaried employees 

  • Review and ensure accuracy of salaries, weekly approved timesheets, garnishments and all other payroll source deductions 

  • Ensure that employee information, deductions or charges (RRSP, DPSP, RBC group benefits) are entered in ADP payroll system correctly and accurately 

  • Review charges, deductions, additions and adjustments for proper authorization and adherence to company policies including compliance with federal and provincial regulations 

  • Coordinate and inform the accounting manager for payroll funding; prepare and post the required payroll journal entries into Newstar accounting system 

  • Maintain employee payroll records such as TD1, ROE, timesheets, elections pertaining to contribution to CPP, DPSP, labor certificate forms and all others 

  • Reconcile and remit WSIB and union dues on a timely basis. Prepare the labor union dues spreadsheet on a monthly basis 

  • Reconcile and analyze all payroll related accounts to the general ledger 

  • Review and reconcile payroll payments on a monthly basis, and ensure that monthly payments are accurate 

  • Responsible for the annual reconciliation and filing of WSIB and EHT payments 

  • Prepare the payroll chargeback spreadsheet  

  • Respond to enquiries from Service Canada, CRA, WSIB, ADP and internal inquiries 

  • Assists in the identification and implementation of payroll process improvements 

  • Maintain proper filing of payroll related documents 

  • Complete T2200 E (12) Declaration of Conditions of Employment when required 

  • Review and reconcile the annual T4 and T4 summary  

  • Compile and complete annual automobile taxable benefits calculation as part of T4 taxable benefits 

  • Perform other payroll related tasks that may be assigned from time to time 

About You 

  • Post-Secondary diploma/degree in Payroll 

  • Payroll designation preferred 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • 3+ years of Payroll related work experience

  • Newstar and ADP experience is an asset 

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines and easily adapt to changing situations in a fast-paced environment 

Hourly Rate 

$40/hr
