About the Opportunity

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of a weekly payroll for 500 hourly and salaried employees as per government legislation
  • Ensure all payroll inputs and deductions are correct (overtime, vacation, bereavement, garnishments, benefits, RRSP etc.)
  • Enter and track all payroll adjustments and reconcile all weekly payroll registers
  • Communicate with the HR team to ensure the integrity of the payroll data including data related to new hires, terminations, transfers and rate changes
  • Set up new employees and process changes in payroll system (ADP Workforce Now)
  • Process rate adjustments in payroll and benefit systems
  • Track RRSP/DPSP weekly deductions
  • Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements and interpret new legislation impacting payroll practices and processes
  • Prepare monthly cheque requisitions (Family Responsibility Office, Small Claims Court, etc.) and remittances for EHT and WSIB, for accounting department
  • Prepare relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports
  • Process taxable benefits (i.e. car allowances, tuition reimbursement, etc.) and enter pension adjustments for employees prior to T4 run. Prepare and distribute T4s and T4As and other tax papers in accordance with government legislation
  • Act as main point of contact for employee benefit and RRSP inquiries and troubleshooting payroll related issues
  • Prepare Records of Employment for all staff
  • Liaise with payroll provider to correct system deficiencies
  • Train and assist users on the operation of the time and attendance management system
  • Administer the Annual Production Bonus program
  • Participate in government legislated audits (i.e. WSIB, EHT, etc.)
  • Track safety shoe, safety glasses, smoking cessation and education bursary entitlements and coordinate reimbursements
  • Process all merit/annual increases and track all completed quarterly/annual reviews
  • Prepare and coordinate orientation files
  • Filing

About You

  • College or University degree in Finance, HR or a related field
  • Certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience running payroll in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll and employment legislation
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer software knowledge including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now
  • Professional presence with an ability to interact well with all levels of staff
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage confidential information
  • Ability to work in an unstructured, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment

Salary

$55,000 - $65,000/year
