Our client is a large public company in the manufacturing industry. This well-run company is looking for an Assistant Controller to focus on financial close, process improvement, intercompany transactions, analysis and some financial modelling.

About the Opportunity 

  • Actively support and participate in the monthly financial close cycle. 
  • Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries as well as timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations. 
  • Administer, review and control employee out of pocket expense and credit card systems 
  • Preparation and recording of multi-currency intercompany elimination entries for global entities, conduct a review of intercompany invoices/transactions and perform intercompany reconciliations as part of the settlement/netting process 
  • Prepare and remit indirect tax filings to various regulatory authorities (QST, PST, HST) 
  • Assist with the annual corporate tax return filings, including preparation of the supporting tax working papers 
  • Analyse and perform monthly journal entries in relation to foreign currency hedge contracts (mark to market) and provide insights on on-going trends. 
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of process improvements. Assist with documenting internal accounting controls and procedures in accordance with the Financial Control Model (FCM). 
  • Support and facilitate the planning, budgeting, and forecasting at regional, district level and branch levels. 
  • Provide critical insights on financial performances and major variances to budget and forecast. 
  • Perform complex analyses of financial data to prepare reports and/or presentations for all levels of management and executives, facilitating the decision making and financial reporting process 
  • Ability to create financial models and scorecards to promote the understanding of financial and non-financial information. 
  • Continual evaluation of existing analytical spreadsheets and tools, looking for ways to improve upon or make them more effective for financial decision-making 

About You 

  • CPA 
  • 3 to 5 years of financial and management accounting experience & experience in dealing with intercompany transactions and Canadian indirect taxes. 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS) 
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suits, specifically Microsoft Excel (Vlookup, PivotTables, Nested functions). 
  • Experience with SAP BPC and Analysis for office is a strong asset 

Salary Range 

$90,000 - $100,000/year
