About the Opportunity

  • Assistance with the monthly and quarterly close process including preparation or review of journal entries
  • Assessment of financial statement estimates and assumptions including but not limited to estimates and assumptions relating to insurance loss reserves, share-based compensation, and employee defined benefit plans
  • Preparation and review of account reconciliations
  • Preparation of monthly consolidation and other monthly reporting templates
  • Preparation and reconciliation of Payroll and Share Based Compensation accruals
  • Assistance with IFRS financial statement preparation including responsibility for certain quarterly and annual disclosures for the financial statements and MD&A
  • Review and analysis of reconciliations of information between the investment general ledger, investment source systems and external parties
  • Preparation of quarterly reporting template for the parent company
  • Technical research and analysis in respect of new transactions and changes in accounting standards
  • Annual technical analyses including the goodwill impairment assessment
  • Participation in external audits including coordination of working papers for external auditors
  • Participation in internal audits including providing support for Sarbanes Oxley controls relating to financial reporting processes
  • Assistance with the annual GST / HST return preparation process
  • Assistance with Tax Accounting and Reporting
  • Modify existing and design new processes to maximize operational efficiency
  • Participation in special projects, as required
  • Ad hoc requests, as required

About You

  • Knowledge of and experience with full cycle accounting including journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation
  • Knowledge of and experience with current and emerging International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, accurate and detail oriented
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor while still providing support and integrating with the entire Controllership and Financial Planning & Analysis team
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.  Ability to communicate to employees at multiple levels within the Company
  • A self-starter that delivers quality work product with minimal oversight
  • Demonstrates a clear commitment to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct
  • 5 –10 years of progressive finance experience
  • Public Company reporting experience is an asset
  • Insurance company or general financial services experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the new insurance accounting standard, IFRS 17 is an asset
  • University degree
  • CPA designation or in progress

Pay Rate

$35/hour
