Payroll Specialist - 3 Month Contract

About the Opportunity

  • Prepares and processes bi-weekly pay for employees, union and non-union, using the in-house payroll system
  • Ensures payroll compliance with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements
  • Participates in the implementation of system changes as required as a result of legislative amendments or updates, pension plan or Collective Agreement changes, and corporate initiatives
  • Reconciles and prepares timely remittances (includes union dues, WSIB, EHT, pension, donations etc.) on a monthly basis
  • Records and processes garnishments/wage orders when required ensuring timely payment to specific agencies
  • Ensures accurate remittances of all statutory deductions
  • Processes terminations, including issuing Record of Employments, vacation pay and all other related activities
  • Collaborates with the HR department to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate
  • Processes and reconciles year-end payroll reports and T4/T4A slips and prepares necessary audit documentation
  • Establishes yearly payroll processing schedules
  • Provides information for inquiries and payroll-related services as required
  • Assists with the preparation of internal reports and quarterly reports as required
  • Keeps up to date with relevant legislation changes and trends

About You

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience within a large to mid-size computerized payroll environment
  • Completion of a Post-Secondary education
  • The Canadian Payroll Association PCP designation is preferred
  • Proficiency using an ERP system to process payroll, Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Serenic payroll preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
  • Strong Payroll, Accounting skills, mainly in General Ledger reconciliation process
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Payroll/HR fundamentals including legislative and amendments to same
  • Exceptional organizational, planning and time management skills, including the ability to multitask, be flexible and move from one priority to another while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to deal with highly confidential information
  • The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening)
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset

Pay Rate

$25 - $30/hour
