About the Opportunity

  • Responsible for Accounts Payable Close at month end
  • Supervise and support the Accounts Payable team in resolving issues and ensuring workload is completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provide new hire orientation and training to new staff in the Accounts Payable department
  • Working with Controller to develop and implement best practice policies and procedures to ensure Accounts Payable are processed efficiently utilizing appropriate internal controls
  • Manage vendor setup and maintenance; develop and maintain vendor relations
  • Reconcile vendor statements on a monthly basis, resolving discrepancies and ensuring vendor discounts are utilized
  • Review Accounts Payable batches before posting
  • Prepare monthly accruals
  • Oversee and coordinate the functions of the Accounts Payable department
  • Professionally interact with company auditors, tax auditors, and tax recovery specialists as required
  • Adhere to and enforce the policies and procedures of the Accounts Payable department
  • Update training materials and departmental procedures as needed
  • Provide troubleshooting support to all Accounts Payable personnel
  • Plan and conduct meetings with Accounts Payable staff to ensure compliance with established practices
  • Update Accounts Payable staff with policies, changes, ad current standards and ensure an accurate understanding of company policies in relation to allowances, expenses, and direct payments
  • Plan the departments workload and flow
  • Answer queries and complaints from vendors with respect to payment status and diffuse any potential issues
  • Review and investigate invoices and communicate errors to relevant parties and departments
  • Investigate and resolve any tax issues with respect to purchase orders and invoices
  • Maintain communication with the portal administrator regarding any portal issues and problems
  • Responsible for all aspects pertaining to producing cheques, getting signatures, and distribution of cheques
  • Other duties as required by the business

About You

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree or College diploma in accounting, finance or a related field required
  • 5+ years of experience in accounts payable
  • 3+ years experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • General understanding of computerized accounting systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics (NAV) is an asset
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines
  • Assertive, comfortable communicating with various types of individuals
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures, and understanding of financial legislation
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • A team player

Pay Rate

$30 - $33/hour
