About the Opportunity

  • Provides operational expertise to the payroll practice including making recommendations to the HR management team on procedures and controls within the practice area
  • Administers payroll entry, payroll reporting and payroll inquiries ensuring timely and accurate preparation and processing of payroll
  • Administers the timekeeping system, set up, tracking, reporting and act as main contact to Managers and Supervisors to ensure accurate input and processing of hours
  • Works closely with the Payroll Accountant to oversee input of data and audit processes related to the payroll inputs
  • Works with the business, the Human Resources team and the Payroll Accountant ensuring all necessary data is transferred in a timely manner to complete payroll
  • Responsible for the oversight of all new hire information across all provinces ensuring compliance with respective provincial guidelines, system set up and reporting
  • Complies with Human Resources policies, procedures and best practices
  • Works in cooperation with the overall HR team in salary adjustment and bonus process preparation and administration and provides support and advice with regard to compensation related topics and issues
  • Respond to requests from employees and external agencies on matters relating to payroll
  • Identifies ways to improve payroll efficiencies
  • Works in concert with the Payroll Analyst(s) and Payroll Accountant to complete the year-end process, including government filings, i.e. T4/T4A, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a solid and respectful working relationships with all members of the Payroll and HR team
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationships within the Company as well as all other internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop, establish and maintain good working relationship with the Company’s suppliers, partners, consultants, stakeholders and other network contacts

About You

  • A proven record of payroll system implementation/change over; preferably from server to cloud based systems
  • 10 plus years of relevant, progressive Payroll experience with a proven record of accomplishment
  • Experience with Workday Payroll is a plus
  • Have/maintain Payroll Certification – PCP or CPM (preferred) with Canadian Payroll Association
  • Maintain education knowledge base for Payroll and working knowledge of Benefits (continual education)
  • Strong knowledge of Employment Standards Act and the Income Tax Act and any other relevant legislation
  • Ability to plan, direct and administer programs and systems
  • Ability to prepare and analyze reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Technically grounded in MS Office applications
  • A high level of individual initiative and ability to work with minimal direction
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build credibility and establish relationships, confidently interacting with all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices of payroll and benefits
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Pay Rate

$80,000/year
