They are currently looking for a Senior Financial Analyst who will perform very complex accounting work including compilation, preparation and analysis of financial statements to support regulatory and tax accounting requirements and management decision making regarding capital

About the Opportunity

• Prepares and files the insurance statutory financial statements (P&C) and other regulatory filings under current accounting standards and IFRS 17
• Prepares the financial statement disclosure notes
• Provides analysis and methods to implement IFRS 17 including transition entries, comparatives, statutory statements and disclosure notes
• Supports audits (internal, external, regulatory, income tax and other)
• Posts accounting quarterly and annual tax entries and supports the corporate tax department working with external consultants as needed
• Prepares complex reports on a timely basis, including monthly/quarterly GAAP and/or statutory requirements to support the company’s financial results, prepares monthly account reconciliations; approves team members journal entries, prepares appropriate commentary or explanations relating to issues/information of particular interest; uses judgment to determine which issues/information warrant closer attention
• Supports Home Office financial systems upgrades/replacement
• Conducts investigations of complex accounts, if needed. Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity that require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness
• Proactively identifies and solves the most complex problems that impact the direction of the function. Progression to this level is typically restricted on the basis of individual capabilities and function requirements
• Conducts complex analysis of financial data/systems/processes and prepares reports and supporting financial information to respond to accounting management’s information needs, new regulatory requirements or business issues as they arise; determines the best approach and methodology, collects data, conducts complex analyses, and interprets the results to assess the impact on the organization, policies, processes or procedures to maintain compliance or improve operating efficiency or effectiveness
• Employs technology tools to provide on-going, sustainable information and analysis support to the business as applicable. Strives to continuously improve procedures, processes, and documentation.
• Works with Canadian and Home Office finance departments to ensure quality and timeliness of all reporting requirements
• Contributes to internal cross training in a wide number of areas of subject matter expertise such as interpretation of regulations or utilization of financial systems to improve the technical and regulatory skills of other accounting staff; mentors and provides technical instruction to junior staff to improve individual capability
• Leads multidisciplinary projects or initiatives. Serves as senior consultant to management

About You

• CPA
• 5-10 years of relevant experience
• Experience in property & casualty insurance accounting
• Knowledge of IFRS17 an asset
• Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices including IFRS17 and accounting for taxes

Salary Range

$80,000 to $90,000/year
