  • Ensure internal control measures are maintained and operating effectively, monitor and report on compliance with internal controls
  • Manage General Accounting services, including financial statements and reporting, timely account reconciliations, journal entries posting, month-end closing, cash flow forecast, tracking of investments, reporting, reporting, internal controls, government filings, approving payment batches, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable management backup support
  • Responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate monthly preparation of financial statements, management reporting package, Board and Audit Committee packages, monthly HST return and annual CRA charity return, correspondences with CRA on tax matters and ad hoc reports and analysis as required
  • Payment approvals and bank file releases including vendor wires/EFTs/cheques, transfers/wires between bank accounts, CRA payroll taxes and pension payments
  • Responsible for leadership of external processes including the external year-end audit and manages the external audits, including coordinating with the internal teams to ensure audit deliverables and timeliness are met, drafting the audited financial statements with note disclosures and acting as the main point of contact for the external auditors
  • Through outreach, assist non-financial departments (including Payroll) in interpreting financial information, policies, and procedures and identify and support internal customer financial learning
  • Review and update all relevant policies for consistency with internal controls, legislative and regulatory compliance, and customer requirements
  • Ensure all accounting policies and procedures are current, documented and accountabilities assigned and understood
  • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all financial information
  • Manage bank deposits, revenue allocations and Cash Book close and controls, monitoring of closing balances, reporting, related internal controls and audits
  • Manage Accounts Payable function and ensure that variations and errors are minimized and corrected promptly
  • Ensure the billing process is centralized through the core AR processing and banking arrangements
  • Ensure all relevant monthly account reconciliations are completed and reviewed on time, and reconciling items are resolved and closed within the following month
About You
  • CPA B.A. or Business Administration degree from a recognized institution. An MBA designation is an asset
  • A Canadian professional accounting designation required i.e. CPA or CPA, CA or CPA, CMA or CPA, CGA
  • Expert level knowledge of and experience with the application of GAAP and other financial standards, ideally in a PSAS environment
  • 8-10 years of related accounting and financial experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated business experience in financial reporting, financial statements, reconciliations, general accounting processes and fiduciary requirements
  • Progressive management experience within a financial services function
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications, and ability to liaise with internal and external departments effectively
  • Experience leading, or as a key member in successful ERP/accounting system implementations or transformations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to lead and manage a diverse workforce
  • Ability to meet and balance multiple competing priorities in an environment where ambiguity arises on a regular basis

Pay Rate
$50/hour
