Senior Payroll Supervisor - 1 Year Contract (Closed)

The Supervisor, Payroll provides supervision of all Payroll functions, including reviewing all entries to the corporate payroll system and associated accounting entries. This position also ensures compliance with applicable legislation, corporate policies and the collective agreement(s). The position will also be involved with testing for the current ERP system.

About the Opportunity

• Provides backup to all payroll administrative services and related functions at two legacy locations (Mississauga and Vaughan) to ensure the processing of the corporate payroll(s) on an accurate and timely basis
• Ensures compliance with all related federal and provincial legislation, corporate policies and the collective agreement(s) as they relate to administration of payroll
• Provides information and payroll-related data and reports required for corporate decision making
• Responds to inquiries from employees regarding payroll
• Validates the system calculation of earnings and deductions to ensure compliance with the Canada Revenue Agency, provincial legislation, collective agreement(s), WSIB and benefit programs
• Ensures accurate administration, including remittance and reporting of all payroll-related deductions including tax, CPP, EI, OMERS, WSIB, EHT and garnishments family support payments
• Reviews all reconciliations of the payroll general ledger accounts
• Works closely with Human Resources to coordinate the receipt of information, clarify changes, provide further details, reconcile discrepancies, etc.
• Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
• Provides information and payroll-related data and reports required for corporate decision-making
• Reviews / reconciles the payroll general ledger accounts
• Plans, organizes and supervises the daily activities of operational unit
• Provides leadership, coaching, development, performance management, technical guidance and advice to payroll department staff
• Provides input into department goals and objectives
• Leads and/or participates in department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget

About You

• College diploma or a university degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance
• Canadian Payroll Association designation
• Minimum 5 years related experience including supervision of payroll staff
• Experience in developing and recommending corporate procedures, managing budgets and providing input to strategic/business plans
• Demonstrated experience in a unionized environment is an asset
• Experience with ADP software
• Experience with JDE is an asset
• Extensive working knowledge of Tier 1 ERP, payroll and related systems
• Extensive working knowledge of pensions and related submission requirements
• Knowledge of relevant payroll and benefits legislation including Canada Revenue Agency requirements laws, regulations and guidelines as well as Employment Standards legislation
• Knowledge of accounting as related to payroll, benefits and pension, including in-depth knowledge of General Ledger analysis and reconciliation   
• Proficiency in interpreting policies, procedures, benefits and pension guidelines
• Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office applications including a high level of competence in Excel

Pay Rate

$45 - $50/hour
