Senior Financial Accountant - 3 Month Contract (Closed)

About the Opportunity

  • Prepare entity and consolidated financial records including the timely and accurate compilation of monthly and year-end IFRS financial statements and related supporting analyses
  • Assist with the preparation of periodic board and senior management reporting, including annual budgets and variance analyses
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for global, multi-currency bank accounts
  • Prepare and process month-end journal entries
  • Complete accurate and timely working papers, analyses and reconciliations on trust payables, receivables, expense reporting and inter-company balances in multi-currencies
  • Assist with the coordination and monitoring of various tax and regulatory requirements including compliance reporting and remittances. This includes reporting in the USA, Canada and the UK (FCA)
  • Participate with the Assistant Vice President – Controller and Treasurer in developing and executing various ad-hoc financial and operational analyses including variance analysis on revenue, corporate expenses, foreign exchange and other key performance measures
  • Prepare analyses of the impact of new accounting standards on the group results and financial position. Recommend courses of action as needed
  • Liaise with Toronto staff and those located in the Company’s other global locations in the implementation and maintenance of group accounting procedures
  • Prepare analyses of reinsurance cash receipts and disbursements, reconciliation of General Ledger to trust accounting systems including accurate application of funds to outstanding balances
  • Follow up on outstanding items in a regular and timely manner
  • Prepare own enclosure, query and explanatory memorandum and letters
  • Participate in Finance department’s initiatives and strategic goals
  • Anticipate potential problems or issues, and escalate through to senior management with recommended solutions. Execute, participate or implement the appropriate and agreed upon best course of action

About You

  • Qualified Professional accountant – CA, CPA or equivalent, with at least 3-5 years of experience in the accounting field, industry experience preferred
  • Highly disciplined with developed business acumen and professional integrity
  • Strong financial reporting and analytical skills with the ability to recognize inconsistencies in financial data and determine source of discrepancies
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), diplomatic and negotiation skills in dealing with all levels of business and professionals within and outside the industry
  • Excellent computer and technical skills.  Proficiency with Sage accounting software. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), with advanced Excel mastery particularly in the areas of formula and data analyses
  • Ability to identify, analyze and escalate critical issues for resolution
  • A general willingness to be flexible in work habits and assigned tasks. Adaptable and comfortable in less than fully structured environment
  • Demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic attitude at all times
  • Developed or developing leadership skills and ambitions
  • Highly organized with excellent prioritization skills
  • Able to work well under stressful conditions, many times within tight timelines, to keep self and others focused, objective and effective in the face of pressure

Pay Rate

$45/hour
