Payroll Administrator - 6 Month Contract (Closed)

About the Opportunity

  • Ensures the timely and accurate preparation and processing of payroll and associated tasks
  • Reviews and keys all payroll change forms, time sheets, and pay adjustments
  • Prepares documentation associated with the remittances for CRA, WSIB, Employer Health Tax, OMERS Pension, Meridian, union dues and garnishees
  • Responds to inquiries from HR regarding payroll
  • Maintains current knowledge pertaining to benefits, the collective agreement, company policies and payroll legislation and applies changes/updates as required
  • Calculates retro payments and pay adjustments for new hires and terminations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

About You

  • Canadian Payroll Association designation is preferred, or working towards completion
  • Technical knowledge and competence in JD Edwards a strong asset
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant payroll and benefits legislation including Canada Revenue Agency requirements, laws, regulations and guidelines as well as Employment Standards legislation
  • Proficiency in interpreting policies, procedures, benefits and pension guidelines
  • General knowledge of accounting as related to payroll, benefits and pension administration
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including a high level of competence in Excel
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a payroll and benefits administration role
  • Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
  • High degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with confidential, sensitive information
  • Ability to follow established processes with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, while ensuring all deadlines are met
  • Service-orientation and high degree of client focus with the ability to ensure cooperation from others while maintaining professional and respectful relationships at various levels of the organization
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex technical issues
  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information in an organized and concise way
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines  
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Pay Rate

$28 - $30/hour
