About the Opportunity
  • Coordinates month-end closing activities by working collaboratively with various departments and ensures the proper responsibilities and deadlines are set and enforced
  • Prepares standard monthly financial reporting package for presentation to senior leadership (e.g., financial statements and other financial analysis as required)
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual IFRS financial statements and related financial statement notes
  • Preparation of quarterly management disclosure and analysis (i.e. year-over-year analysis)
  • Provide guidance and support to accounting group and other business units to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal processes and IFRS
  • Provides financial data analysis and expertise to assist other departments in attaining their respective objectives relative to process and data quality improvement
  • Identifies and recommends process or procedural improvements to improve the quality and timeliness of financial information and to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness for financial reporting
  • Continuously improves the efficiency and accuracy of the reporting process including automation of the reporting tools
  • Ensure integrity of financial reporting by managing general ledger chart of accounts, including maintaining, updating and mapping of new accounts
  • Monitor IFRS developments, interpret, document and provide recommendations on proper application and implementation of these standards into work processes and key deliverables
  • Supports the implementation of new accounting and financial reporting requirements under IFRS by modifying existing reports, models, database and other system changes
  • Assists with external financial statement audits through the preparation of supporting documentation
  • Provides technical expertise in the planning, design and implementation of projects and key initiatives
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

About You
  • CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation
  • A minimum of 3 years related work experience including financial reporting and variance analysis
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge of IFRS
  • Advanced level of knowledge and experience in financial modeling and management reporting
  • Superior proficiency with IT-based automated reporting tools
  • Superior proficiency with Excel application
  • Proficiency with other MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of the energy and utility industries, including a solid understanding of the regulatory environment
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license
