About the Opportunity

  • Accountable for master payroll system set up to ensure the system is in adherence to ESA/CRA legislative, collective agreement requirements and policy of the hospital
  • Leading payroll processing of end-to-end for 6000+ employees bi-weekly
  • Lead, implement and validate all policy and regulatory changes with respect to rate changes, tax updates, premiums, and pay and deduction codes and groupings in the payroll system
  • Validating and processing entries and other employee source data into the human resources information system (HRIS)
  • Responsible for providing Union Dues reports, Service and Seniority reports
  • Initiate in the build and design of ad-hoc reports and audits as required by internal and external stakeholders
  • In-charge of Year End processing including: reconciling and balancing annual taxable earnings and deductions, pension adjustments, coordination of T4 and T4A production with third-party provider on printing and distribution to staffs
  • Assist by identifying gaps, collaborating and recommending process improvements to protect the clients and the organization
  • Supports external auditors through the collection and coordination of semi-annual audit documentation as requested by auditors
  • Implements payroll-related changes for new collective agreements, including retroactive payments
  • Processes the payment of ESA, Severance payments and Retirement Allowances, ensuring payments and deductions are in compliance with the ESA, CRA, and other legislative requirements

About You

  • College diploma/degree in Human Resources, Business Admin, or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, in-house payroll experience is required
  • Certification in payroll is a strong asset (Payroll Compliance Practitioner – PCP or, Certified Payroll Manager – CPM)
  • Experience working in unionized environment is a strong asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, every-changing environment
