They are looking to hire a Senior Manager, Commodity Tax, who is responsible for taking the lead role, as needed, by ensuring that the commodity tax reporting/ financial systems, procedures, controls and policies are appropriate and functioning so that timely, accurate and reliable information is produced.

About the Opportunity
- Required to provide expert specialized commodity tax advice and/or recommendations for all business units, to Director, Sr. Director
- Responsible to provide commodity tax advice on an on-going basis to all business units including any new vendor contractual relationships and to ensure that external vendors are conversant with Loblaw commodity tax requirements
- Support Director and Manager, Commodity Tax in the review of taxability of products sold in all banners of Loblaws Inc and Shoppers Drug Mart stores and update tax flags accordingly
- Recommends and assists in the development of new/enhanced commodity tax reporting systems, policies, procedures and controls to meet user requirements, changing circumstances and existing inefficiencies
- Interprets provincial commodity tax legislation, including tobacco tax, to assist Loblaw business with any commodity tax implications that affect their business
- Reviews the self-assessment of provincial and federal taxes by various Loblaw departments to ensure that they are adhering to regulatory requirements
- Liaises with business senior managers/managers to ensure those commodity tax requirements are understood and operating efficiently including the compilation of the documentation of tax flow for different types of invoice processes that exist within Loblaws Inc
- Liaises with business analysts and system programmers in the design and implementation of information systems that will support Loblaw commodity tax compliance efforts
- Review and sign off on PC Banks annual GST/HST returns
About You
- 5+ years commodity tax (including FI sales tax space) experience, preferably from within a CA firm or within retail industry with a large company
- Advanced knowledge of commodity tax principles and rules
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to commodity tax
- Knowledge of the operations and controls of the financial systems (SAP) and the ability to utilize the information from these systems
- Equivalent to a University degree in Business/Accounting and/or advanced standing toward an accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA) or holds an accounting designation
- Comprehensive understanding of multiple financial based systems and the requirement for the application of commodity taxes to those systems
- Aware of new commodity tax developments, changes in commodity tax legislation and interpretations
Salary Range
$105,000-115,000/year
