About the Company

Our client is one of the largest family offices in Canada, where they manage and invest the accumulated families’ wealth and Foundations’ assets, excluding any majority-owned operating entities. The investment mandate is largely focused: on passively managed direct assets, direct real estate holdings, and selection/oversight of 3rd party managers. A small portion of the portfolio will be in early stage / venture / growth investments in adjacent fields to the principals’ primary business, which will either be direct investments or co-investments.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst will be an integral part of the growing Finance team and will be responsible for ensuring timely, accurate and comprehensive financial and investment performance reporting. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with evaluation and implementation of new systems covering accounting, investment reporting and investment research
  • Reconciling statements from custodians into the investment reporting system to ensure trades, dividends and other corporate actions are captured
  • Reviewing capital account and NAV statements from fund administrators / fund managers and entering the period’s activity into the investment reporting system
  • Keeping the investment research tool up-to-date and reconciled with the investment reporting systems
  • Maintaining up to date accounting records for all entities in the family office structures (ASPE) and foundations (ASNPO) including:
  • Updating the accounting system with the monthly investment portfolio transactions and reconciling the accounting and investment reporting system
  • Recording expenses and intercompany transactions, including monthly intercompany reconciliations with family office and operating companies
  • Posting bank transactions and performing bank reconciliations
  • Recording of contributions to the foundations and donation activities
  • Drafting financial statements
  • Maintain strong working relationship with all service providers (banking relationships, vendors, investment reporting platform account executives etc.)
  • Providing the requisite data to the tax team to support tax filings
  • Preparing the monthly/quarterly reporting pack for the Investment Committee
  • Assisting with setting up and maintaining bank accounts
  • Validating vendor information and setting up payments and transfers
  • Researching and recommending best practices with respect to processes, controls and reporting
  • Hiring, overseeing and reviewing/trouble shooting the work of the staff accountant, once hired
  •  Other ad-hoc tasks, as may be required

About You

  • CPA Designation 
  • 3+ years experience in a similar environment
  • Industry: Open, willing to train

Salary Range

Up to $95,000/year
