Senior Financial Analyst (Closed)

The Senior Financial Analyst will be primarily responsible for financial modelling, analysis, consolidated budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning for the division to provide valuable insights in support of operating and strategic planning initiatives. Other responsibilities would include joint venture reporting/partnering and financial reporting during month-end/year-end. Creating and fostering strong business partnership relationships with other departments in the Division along with the Corporate office will be crucial in this role.

About the Opportunity

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Develop models and other analyses to drive initiatives, monitor trends, identify exceptions and to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes
  • Create top to bottom profit and loss forecasts, translate these forecasts into current and future impacts on the balance sheet (financial position) and communicate how these changes affect a statement of cash flow with a focus on understanding the inputs, impacts and drivers of operating cash flow
  • Analyze the profitability, projections and other financial models to support decision making, financial feasibility and new business initiatives in collaboration with other departments
  • Sensitivity analysis to determine the impact of changes to underlying assumptions on annual and strategic plan
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis and information concerning Return on Investments (ROI) and Return on Equity (ROE)
  • Analyze budgets and forecasts for all departments (including Land Development, Home Building and G&A Expenses) providing reports on variances, trends, and control standards and practices
  • In conjunction with Financial Reporting, complete monthly and quarterly forecasts to budget variance analysis with commentary that address key issues and drivers, to determine root causes
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting schedules to support monthly, quarterly analysis and review
  • Work to foster and develop strategic business partnerships with functional and departmental leaders while able to communicate financials and operational impacts to operational leaders

Financial Reporting

  • Improve the quality and efficiency of financial reports and models and seek opportunities to streamline analysis and processes
  • Consolidate and prepare Financial Statements including taking a leadership role in Joint Venture reporting and partnering with the Land department to ensure JV relationships remain strong
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting schedules to support monthly, quarterly analysis and review
  • Commentary and variance analysis on income statement, balance sheet and cash flow vs. budget, forecast and prior year where applicable

Joint Venture Accounting

  • Review agreements and determine accounting impact
  • Reconcile investment and joint venture equity on a monthly basis
  • Review monthly trial balances and perform account analysis
  • Determine and provide pertinent information for new Joint Ventures as required in JDE

About You

  • University degree in Commerce or Business Administration with emphasis on finance/accounting
  • Attainment of Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial planning and forecasting role
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Able to handle tight deadlines, new deliverables with a positive and constructive attitude
  • Detail oriented with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills with modeling experience
  • Experience with any accounting software packages, including reporting products and ability to quickly learn new software packages
  • Results oriented with an ability to set and meet realistic and attainable goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external customers

Salary Range

$80,000 - $90,000/year
