About the Opportunity
  • Financial Reporting and Controls
    • Lead all accounting, reporting (internal and to the family-office), costing and financial analysis within the Company: oversee and ensure accurate and timely monthly and quarterly reports for revenues and expenses/ensure integrity, flexibility, accuracy, and consistency in data used for statutory and ownership reporting and business performance
    • Identify and partner with all departments and functions to identify, build and ensure appropriate financial controls, processes, policy, framework, and support is in place to ensure quality financial information is always a key ingredient in decision making
    • Identify, develop, and execute monthly and quarterly and hoc reporting related to finance, legal (US & Canada), insurance, or other risk management matters
    • Oversee the financial performance of the business and safeguarding of Company assets
    • Coordinate/prepare/review and provide insights, and financial analysis of business results
    • Keep abreast of accounting standard changes and get buy-in for changes in accounting processes, refine policies, review and monitor operations of accounts, sales and tax in order to ensure compliance and tracking of accounts and tax issues.
    • Assist the President in the management of the business by ensuring analysis of actual results to understand variances to budget and extrapolating to estimate FY impact. Communicate findings and recommend actions and options as appropriate
    • Manage the planning and execution of the annual financial review/audit, ensuring that the financial statements of the Company comply with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), except where exceptions to ASPE are directed/approved by the family-office.
  • Job Costing
    • Design and maintain an effective job cost accounting system to accurately track costs associated with manufacturing projects, including labor, materials, overheads, and other direct and indirect expenses
    • Ensure accurate allocation and absorption of costs to individual jobs, providing insights on job profitability and cost variances
    • Develop and monitor key metrics related to job cost accounting, such as job profitability, gross margin analysis, and cost-to-completion
  • Treasury, Compliance, Risk Management and Cash Management
    • Oversee cash management to support the operating needs of the company including cash forecasting, reporting and analysis
    • Enhance working capital efficiency through adoption of appropriate credit risk management, and collections processes and negotiating of payment terms with customers and vendors
    • Develop KPIs and processes to enhance inventory management and controls, including inventory obsolescence and scrap and sensitivity to commodity price change impacts
    • Monitor the banking activities of the organization consistent with the delegation of authority approved by the President and the family-office owner
    • Investigating and executing on potential funding opportunities through various government grant incentives and programs (what’s out there, defining business case, working with external and internal partners to administer and manage application process)
    • Oversee the preparation and filing of all tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, payroll tax, and other relevant filings in Canada and the US
    • Stay updated on changes in tax and regulatory laws and regulations (including duties and tariffs), assess their impact on the organization, and implement necessary changes to ensure compliance
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including financial reporting, disclosure obligations, and industry-specific regulations
    • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to develop and implement policies and procedures to address regulatory requirements
    • Stay informed about changes in regulatory frameworks and assess their impact on the organization's financial operations
    • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize the organization's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations – e.g., transfer pricing
    • Support the Group Treasurer / family-office owner in financing, insurance and tax planning and compliance
  • Strategy, Planning, Budgeting
    • Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of strategic budgeting and planning process to ensure sound planning/project management, financial support to departments, identification and capture of material costs, and consistent delivery of financial expectations of the Company within defined timelines
    • Drive variance to budget processes and partner with departmental stakeholders to understand variance, risk, and development of accurate forecasts
    • Maintain income statement, balance sheet and cash flow model, as well as consolidated risk and opportunities analysis. Manage financial issues and their impact on YTG performance and other future planning assumptions
    • Evaluate and due diligence on any investment opportunities – capital expenditures and new programs and support potential M&A opportunities
    • Advice, counsel the President, Management Team and other leaders of the organization regarding financial implications/insights/analytical decision support on all strategic and operational matters
    • Oversee the development of KPIs and dashboards related to strategic plan implementation and initiatives
  • Business Leadership & New Business Support
    • Partner with Sales, Procurement and Operations teams to coordinate RFQ’s and other major bids for new business
    • Lead the preparation and review of all contracts with customers and suppliers/ensure and maintain relationships and customer profitability renegotiating terms where required
    • Point person for outside counsel related to legal admin and contracts (US Commercial law, customer contracts, NDA, trademark law, broker agreements)
    • Participate in new business initiatives and provide guidance and counsel on all opportunities
    • Liaise with key external customers and internal departments to ensure the Finance Team provide best in class financial acumen and service
  • Information Technology & Organizational Capability Development
    • Ensure technology solutions (systems, hardware and telecommunications) throughout the Company are critically evaluated to provide successful combinations of technology, data management, costs, business effectiveness and integration
    • Lead the development of the IT strategy
    • Ensures that the risks associated with the electronic storage of information are minimized and appropriate backup data is secured, monitored and tested periodically
    • Oversee the management of agreements with external IT service partners with the IT manager.
    • Champion the continuous development and optimization of automated system capabilities to enhance business performance and cost efficiencies at all facilities
  • Talent Management / Engagement / Development
    • Oversees talent acquisition and talent development of all team members within the Finance and IT organization
    • Ensures continued progress in leadership development and succession planning, under the guidance of the President. Champion organizational design/change initiatives targeted at ensuring the Finance and IT function structures, capability, and succession talent meet the changing strategic needs of the business
    • Lead in a way that enables employee engagement, motivation and development and coach department managers to ensure they meet defined leadership expectations and behaviors
    • Drive the employee development agenda: vison alignment / performance management / feedback / experiential learning / coaching
About You
  • Chartered Professional Accounting Designation (CPA/CA/CMA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in business finance or equivalent, with Finance focus considered an asset.
  • 3 – 5 years Senior Director or VP, Finance experience in an organization with Canadian and US operations
  • Deep understanding of efficient business/manufacturing process and systems within a job order manufacturing environment with a proven track record of successful change/cost management
  • 15 years progressive Finance management experience across accounting, operations, FP&A disciplines 
  • Demonstrated experience in building an agile and adaptable Finance team that focuses on enabling the business, not regulating it
  • Proven record on optimizing ERP business effectiveness and efficiency
  • Demonstrated cross-functional experience managing matrix relations with Operations (cost management) and Commercial (customer profitability/open book model relations) partners
  • Understands what best in class Finance/IT infrastructure looks like and has managed the implementation

$70/hour
