Payroll Specialist, 6 Month Contract (Closed)

About The Opportunity 

  • Ensures that new hires are set up correctly in all payroll systems 
  • Implements department transfers and status changes from Human Resources and updates employee set-ups in the payroll systems 
  • Processes terminations and determines payouts of vacation, stat holiday and saved overtime banks 
  • Prepares Records of Employment for employees who are terminating their employment or are on a leave of absence 
  • Maintains payroll records and ensures appropriate storage of confidential information 
  • Assists with the payroll processing, from timecard generation through to the end of period processing 
  • Processes all pay adjustments from e-mails and supplementary pay forms and inputs payroll data including hours and earnings in Time & Attendance 
  • Calculates retro payments to individuals and union groups as required 
  • Reviews and calculates maternity and parental leave top-up requests 
  • Calculates payouts, salary continuance, severance pay and retiring allowances for terminating employees 
  • Enters payroll deductions for Credit Union, Gift Funds, Allowances, and Meal & Travel Expense Reimbursements 
  • Responsible and accountable for the time-sensitive electronic transfer of deposits and auto bank withdrawals to the Bank to ensure payroll and banking deadlines are met 
  • Prepares monthly remittances for payroll withholdings 
  • Calculates WSIB Payroll Advances and generates payroll information for WSIB Form 7s 
  • Transfers payroll transactions to the General Ledger through the General Ledger Close 
  • Prepares monetary and statistical journal entries on a monthly basis for the Finance Department 
  • Identifies and creates journal entries and produces adjustments required for audit working papers 
  • Provides support to Supervisors, Managers and/or Directors 

About You 

  • Post-Secondary education related to Accounting, Business, Human Resources or related discipline required 
  • 3 years accounting experience required 
  • 3 years computerized payroll experience required 
  • CPA Designation preferred 
  • Self-starter and work independently 
  • Deal with large volumes within specific time limitations 
  • Strong data entry skills 
  • Meet mandatory deadlines in timely manner 
  • Ability to work overtime without reasonable notice 
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal 
  • Demonstrated problem assessment skills 
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork 

Pay Rate 

$28 - $30/hour
