Payroll Manager- 3-6+ Month Contract (Closed)

About the Opportunity

  • To process payroll for 1000+ employees across Canada
  • Input changes, new information for employees and mid-cycle payroll calculations - Transmit payroll and receive/import information  
  • Import hours from Kronos Workforce Central to Workday
  • Provide support to branches, update vacation and sick accruals
  • Respond to and effectively resolve employee payroll inquiries in a timely manner - Verify all payroll data, changes and prepare manual cheques
  • Use PeopleSoft to produce ad-hoc reports
  • Process cheque requests for Union dues, Garnishments, DC contributions, Workers Compensation & other remittances as required
  • Preparing monthly payroll account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Complete ROE’s and prepare reports for Finance
  • Analyze labour hours and prepare monthly invoice for Union billing
  • Conduct Payroll related training for new employees
  • Responsible for maintenance of all payroll related data
  • Periodically assist with testing for system upgrades
  • Month and year-End processes including balancing, reconciling and preparing Year End Adjustments for T4’s


About You

  • 5+ years of previous Payroll experience, including previous experience in a unionized setting and processing payroll for several provinces
  • A post-secondary education and a CPM
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian payroll practices and legislation
  • Previous experience with Kronos Workforce Central and Workday HRIS 
  • Excellent knowledge of MS office, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience on Payroll/HR software such as PeopleSoft will be considered an asset
  • Possesses a strong sense of urgency and able to work with limited supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who is able to act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, probe, analyze and problem solve complex issues
  • Bilingualism (French & English) is an asset
