About the Opportunity
- Leadership and management of the centralized payroll operational team to ensure timely and accurate payroll results for staff and retirees within multiple established deadlines
- Managing up 16K+ employees under payroll, up to 150 pays processed annually, including many union agreements across multiple provinces
- Ensure payroll compliance and control by ensuring systems and processes are compliant with all payroll-related Federal and Provincial legislation and regulations
- Manage identified risks in support of Internal Controls regarding Financial Reporting
- Lead best practice and continuous improvements in support of enterprise initiatives and an ever-changing business landscape, focusing on technology and process improvements aimed at quality and service enhancements and reduction of costs
- Manage, motivate and develop the payroll team through effective selection, coaching, cross training and succession planning to build long term bench strength
- Ensure completion of year-end processes within prescribed government timelines, including annual production, filing, distribution, reconciliation and reporting of standard and non-standard tax forms
About You
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline (payroll, business, accounting etc) or a combination of education and relevant experience
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience working in a complex payroll environment including multiple union collective agreements
- Strongly preferred to have experience in Ultimate Payroll software
- Demonstrated leadership in achieving goals, developing employees and continuous improvement
- Proven knowledge of all Federal and Provincial payroll related legislation and employment standard
- Demonstrated problem solving skills surrounding complex issues, analytical and decision making ability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Solid understanding of best practice concepts including expat tax equalization
- Proficient in Income Tax calculations and formulas
- Member of Canadian Payroll Association certificate program: Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) is a definite asset
Salary
$115,000 - $125,000/year
