The company is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team in Toronto. This role is responsible for paying all employees at two entities and across multiple provincial tax jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will be detail orientated, self-motivated and work well in both a team environment and on their own. Helping to identify and implement process improvements is also a key requirement. A commitment to confidentiality and flexibility is essential. The Payroll Specialist will support all aspects of Canada payroll processing within Workday including ensuring data integrity. The candidate must have technical experience using Workday’s time, absence and payroll modules and will have completed essential Workday training. The candidate will provide local human resources support including employee onboarding, benefits, and termination. The ideal candidate will also have advanced skills in MS Excel and data analysis. This position is located in our Toronto, Ontario office

About the Opportunity

  • Performs all pay period payroll functions and related analysis, including review and reconciliation of new hires, terminations, salary changes, promotions, time tracking, manual cheques, deductions and bonus payouts
  • Manage time and absence processing and analysis
  • Perform analysis to understand variances from prior pay periods; reconcile general ledger journal entries each pay period
  • Primary day-to-day contact for employee questions and issues regarding payroll, benefits, absence and timekeeping that require quick and accurate responses
  • Responsible for reconciling and funding employee and employer benefit contributions for each pay period.
  • Confirm that employee federal and provincial tax set-up, direct deposit information, voluntary employee benefit contributions, mandated garnishments, and other deductions are accurately maintained in the payroll system
  • Perform required periodic reconciliations of all payroll tax liabilities paid by the employer and the third party payroll tax administrator, including employer and employee group RRSP plan contributions, share based stock transactions, and employee stock purchase plan contributions
  • Supports all year-end payroll activities including reconciliations, submissions, and distribution of employee T-4’s and applicable provincial tax forms
  • Provides employee support related to all benefit plans
  • Identifies and participates in implementing process improvements and system upgrades and works on various other special projects as necessary

About You

  • Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through 5 to 7 years payroll experience in a large and diverse national, multi-entity payroll operation, with a strong understanding of HR and payroll-related processes
  • Payroll certification and/or Bachelor's degree
  • Recent experience with Workday payroll system
  • Solid understanding of Workday time and absence modules
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial payroll related laws and regulations.
  • International Expat knowledge a plus
  • Proficient knowledge of MS office products with an advanced emphasis in MS Excel (i.e., pivot table, v-lookups, functions, etc
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interface with and influence internal/external customers/vendors

Salary

$75,000 - $75,000/year
