About the Opportunity

Manage Chancery Payroll system and ensure compliance with all government regulations and policies. Provide Accounting services to the Accounting & Finance department

  • Manage and administer Desjardins payroll system
  • Resolve issues and concerns and provide assistance to employees and parishes regarding payroll matters on a daily basis
  • Process and manage payroll (from new hires to terminations) for Chancery employees
  • Communicate process and payroll related changes to parishes
  • Provide guidance to two direct reports
  • Liaise with Human Resources department regarding new hires, terminations & benefits
  • Process Chancery employees’ pension contributions and reconciliations on a monthly basis and liaise with our carrier for parishes remittances
  • Manage Record of Employment (ROE) submission for parishes
  • Annual salary calculation of employees based on compensation policy
  • Annual calculation of clergy salaries and communicate to parishes
  • Manage centralized submission of Record of Employment
  • Manage Absence reporting for Chancery employees
  • Provide regular payroll/compensation information and analysis to internal and external stakeholders
  • Complete Year-end procedures, reconciliations/reporting of year-end slips, T4, T4A, T4A-NR, NR4, EHT annual return, and communicate process to parishes.
  • Prepare schedules for the annual Pension Plan audit
  • Liaise with CRA regarding program accounts
  • Assist in the year-end main audit
  • Liaise with bank regarding on-line access and assist parishes with their bank accounts issues
  • Process transfers, EFT for payroll recovery
  • Process monthly allowance (Shepherds’ Trust) for retired clergy
  • Monthly payroll invoicing to related entities
  • Allocation of monthly health benefits
  • Month-end Journal Entries related to payroll and accounting

About You

  • University degree in Accounting
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation preferred
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years working experience in payroll and general accounting
  • Strong understanding & working knowledge of legislation related to payroll
  • Accounting knowledge and experience with ACCPAC
  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Strong MS Word and Excel skills
  • Knowledge of the structure of the Catholic Church and respect for its tenets and clergy
  • Supervisory experience as asset

Salary

$80,000 - $90,000/year
