About the Opportunity
This position will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and processing of payroll in a unionized and non-unionized environment 500 plus (contract, permanent and casual) employees as well as some Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and other Accounting duties
- Work in collaboration with the Senior Payroll Specialist and act as a backup for the Senior Payroll Specialist in his absence
- Complete a full cycle Casual payroll and when required complete a full cycle Contract/Permanent payroll
- Review semi-monthly payrolls for accuracy prior to finalizing and ensure payroll is submitted as per deadlines
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality relative to personal data, compensation data and employee benefits and pension information
- Ensures accuracy with regards to information entered in the Payroll/Accounting systems
- Performs any additional payroll and benefit related duties as required
- Provide backup support for accounts payable, accounts receivable and other accounting functions as required
- Preparing of off cycle pay runs when pay adjustments or ROE’s are required
- Generating of semi-monthly journal entries to allocate benefit costs e.g., SunLife, EHT and RBC to each cost department and prepares payroll accrual entries for month end
- Processing of various remittances – Union dues, EHT, United Way donations, SunLife, MSPP and RBC
- Preparation, reconciliation and balancing of T4 slips and preparation of T2200’s
- Balancing CRA remittances, EHT tax accounts on a monthly basis and investigating differences
About You
- PCP Payroll Designation through Canadian Payroll Association is preferred or enrollment in CPA
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in an automated high volume (500 + employees) payroll environment
- Practical experience third party payroll systems a minimum of 2 years Ceridian Dayforce payroll experience is an asset
- Advanced knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel and Word
- Knowledge of government legislation/regulations and benefit administration practices
- Strong work ethic, integrity, flexibility and adaptable approach
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to balance priorities effectively
- Excellent ability to identify and solve problems using logic and judgement
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Demonstrated commitment to social inclusion and cross cultural communication
- Knowledge and experience with payroll accounting
- Previous experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements strongly desired
- Working knowledge of Accounts Payable and Sage 300 (ACCPAC) software
- Working in a not-for-profit sector is preferred
Salary
$65,000/year
