General Accountant - 3-Month Contract (Closed)

About the Opportunity 

• Examine, verify, reconcile, and process financial information submitted by agency staff
• Provide feedback and training concerning bookkeeping and financial reporting
• Monitor compliance to company policy, government regulations and agency procedures
• Reports variances to agency finance manager with suggestions for resolution
• Assists with month-end, quarter-end and year-end account closing activities and reconciliations
• Maintain detailed listings of the contents of all balance sheet accounts
• Review expense and income accounts for accuracy
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
• Investigate discrepancies
• Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries for accruals and variances
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of accounting records
• Assist with the preparation of reports provided to management
• Adhere to standard accounting principles
• Other duties as assigned

About You

• Strong aptitude for the use and maintenance of financial accounting software
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to staff with varying geographical locations, cultural paradigms and educational perspectives
• Aptitude for MS Office application use and development - experience with MS products and macro programming preferred
• Familiarity with databases and queries
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
