About the Opportunity

Practice Management Reporting

• Responsible for providing support to Management for Budgeting and Forecasting of revenues and initiatives
• Prepare and interpret the quarterly and annual reports, including the Contribution Analysis, Statistics Canada surveys, etc
• Responsible for reviewing and assessing financial results of pricing analysis and budgets
• Performing variance analysis against Forecast for the Firm's largest clients, including leading the monthly and quarterly reporting for both Partners and client audiences
• Developing and maintaining report templates for revenue and profitability reporting

Rates and Pricing Support

• Advise Partners and Senior Management on the proper use of financial information and terminology
• Prepares ad hoc reports for analysis of financial details for department chairs, office managing partners, committee chairs, and support department directors and managers Analyses include all aspects of a financial nature, including revenue analysis, client trends, departmental and office trends, etc
• Proactively identify fixed/alternative fee arrangements and complex matters involving multiple parties that would benefit from Matter Management through data analysis and a strong internal network
• Provide analytic support to Partners/Management to identify business opportunities, assess the competitive market place and build pricing capability
• Work directly with lawyers on the development of budgets, matter plans, timelines and documentation to clearly define matter scope and assumptions and manage matters within those parameters
• Collaborate with other team members and the Director of Innovation and Financial Systems - Accounting on firmwide profitability strategy to design and implement initiatives - such as adoption drives, new software tools and process improvements
• Assist partners and/or liaise directly with clients in tracking fees/costs and communicating fee updates, transaction milestones and ‘out-of-scope’ work to clients
• Assist in the development of legal project management tools, resources and technologies including software, templates, checklists, databases and forms

Business Analytics

• Understand analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights for lawyer financial performance, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
• Support firm-wide business intelligence reports, solutions and client & lawyer dashboards to support strategic management decisions
• Design intuitive analytics to help meet a wide set of requests for analysis.
• Ad hoc reporting and analysis as required

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Accounting, Finance or Business Administration)
• CPA designation – completed or working towards completion is considered an asset but not required
• 2 - 5 years of related work experience
• Strong Excel skills and ability to develop useful pricing templates and reports
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; adept at synthesizing data into meaningful insights
• Ability to think outside the box and identify data driven solutions that are most beneficial to the Firm
• Proven experience managing large client facing legal matters with complex variables and budgets in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Works well within a team-based environment with the ability to build consensus among disparate groups
• Enjoys collaborating with colleagues to deliver best of class service and programs to lawyers/clients
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of strategic information and to protect sensitive information
• Ability to clearly articulate complex reporting solutions and the ability to share knowledge with others in a clear and concise manner
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build harmonious working relationships with other departments and immediate co-workers
• Attention to detail, but with the ability to also see the big picture
• Ability to critically assess the result for reasonableness and meeting expectations

Salary

$70,000 - $75,000/year
