Our client is looking for a financial analyst - 6 month contract to full time

About the Opportunity

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Review the financial sustainability of Principal Investigator portfolios and provide analysis if possible
  • Ensure related accounting principles are exercised in fund accounting
  • Provide financial narratives related to portfolio’s discussing key drivers for revenues and expenses
  • Prevent, signal, and determine means to resolve project deficits through consistent review and monitoring of projects’ financial status
  • Prepare internal and external project financial reports (CIHR/OBI/MOH)
  • Assist with ad hoc reports

Accounting Operations

  • Maintaining and Update Accounting/Operating System for all  funding and projects
  • Receive project payments and ensure they are allocated to the appropriate grant/account
  • Month end journal entries and account adjustments
  • Review study documents related to opening/closing research activities (accounts)
  • Review and approval of expenditures to ensure eligibility, proper authorization, available funding and that the expenses and supporting documentation are in line with sponsor
  • Review current processes and offer suggestions on how to improve accuracy, timeliness and value-add of information

About You

  • University Bachelor’s degree (B.Comm, BBA) is required
  • Complete or working towards a recognized accounting designation (CGA,CMA, or equivalent) is required
  • One to three years’ experience in financial or research environment is required
  • Strong computer skills, with an advanced understanding of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat
  • Working knowledge of MS Access
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
  • Able to perform and adapt in an evolving and changing environment
  • Exercise care and due diligence in handling confidential information
  • Ability to work as a team player within a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial information and solve complex problems
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Comfortable in having challenging conversations with stakeholders (e.g., adhere to policies)
  • Self-motivated
  • High level of problem solving skills

Pay Rate

 $35/hour
