Financial Analyst - 12 Month Contract

Our client is looking for a finance professional that brings analytical thinking and excels in going beyond the numbers. The position is well suited for someone who enjoys change, adapts quickly and able to navigate independently through complex processes.

The team is responsible for preparing annual audited and interim financial statements for our clients Canadian Division Segregated and Private Mutual Funds division. Additional key services provided by the team include fund accounting, fund facts, investment manager surveys, maintenance of accounting models/ policy, management expense ratios, price and investment holdings for vendors, supporting product and fund launches, system enhancements sales tax rate reconciliations, and user acceptance testing.

About the Opportunity

  • Prepare investment fund financial statements
  • Articulate period over period variances combined with analysis on associated investment category (e.g. Canadian Equity, Global Bond, etc.)
  • Work independently with external auditors on assigned tasks for audited financial statements
  • Detect errors, omissions and inconsistencies in data
  • Train and guide co-op student(s) to produce deliverables for financial statements such as statement of investment portfolio (SIP)
  • Participate in annual audit close meeting to suggest areas of improvement to implement next period
  • Prepare journal entries including qualitative and quantitative backup
  • Collaborate with people inside and outside the organization to seek out efficiencies
  • Participate in the investment division projects as a subject matter expert on financial reporting
  • Remain current on IFRS, IFIC, NI-8106 and CLHIA G2
  • Cross-train responsibilities with other team members to act as backup
  • Act and speak as a subject matter expert on assigned tasks and readily explain key controls
  • Respond to inquiries received to the team's general email inbox
  • Quarterly review existing process documentation and make updates

About You

  • IFRS knowledge and experience (Accounting policy, Fair value, Disclosure of interests in other entities, Financial instruments)
  • Degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • 4+ years’ work experience preparing audited financial statements or investment fund operations
  • Strong performer with a track record of implementing controls and efficiencies
  • Project management or significant contributor on projects
  • Experience writing technical papers such as accounting policy and/or work flow diagrams
  • Audit experience is an asset
  • Effectively communicate ideas/ recommendations while considering viewpoint of stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and inquiry skills to understand operational processes and constraints
  • Easily work with Excel formulas (e.g. index, sumif, pivot, lookups, conditional formats, links, etc.)
  • Able to complete tasks ahead of schedule with a sense of urgency
  • Able to work overtime during peak periods as needed

Pay Rate

$28 - $30/hour
