About the Opportunity
  • Responsible for the preparation of accurate monthly Financial Statements and timely quarterly Board package
  • Prepare journals to record bank, donations, payments and investment transactions into ERP
  • Ensure all payments have proper coding and authorization and all donations accurately recorded and donor tax receipts supplied
  • Maintain systematic records of business transactions and ensure all supporting documentation is maintained in support of internal control framework and the annual audit requirements
  • Responsible for the accounting for endowments
  • Manage payments for programs run and for all period end close and year-end procedures
  • Responsible for the preparation of the annual and multi-year budget estimates for the foundation that are presented to the board
  • Estimating revenue/funding based on fund raising efforts, investments and forecasted donations
  • Estimating major costs based on programs, existing and anticipated government policy and economic trends
  • Maintenance of the Raiser’s Edge software for Donations
  • Preparation or oversight of all donor tax receipts
  • Prepare reconciliations, lead sheets and any other supporting documentation required by the auditors
  • Prepare and deposit all donations received by cheque or other means
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for the Bank Accounts and ensure that all Visa cards are paid monthly, and all expenses are recorded in the appropriate accounts
  • Responsible for annual HST and T3010 filing
  • Completing special projects and analysis as assigned
About You
  • CPA Designation
  • 3+ years’ experience in an accounting environment within the Not-for-Profit sector
  • Excellent analytical abilities and endowment accounting
  • Self-motivated and has ability to set priorities and meet deadlines with accuracy independently
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization, including the Board of Directors
  • Understanding of the procure to pay workflow and Broader Public Sector Guideline (BPS)
  • Utilize knowledge of GAAP and PSAS to assist the Foundation in the advancement of its financial stewardship
  • Advance knowledge of Excel spreadsheet applications such as Pivot tables and VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP
  • Understanding the chart of accounts and the ability to maintain the chart of accounts
