Our client is an architectural firm looking to add a Finance Manager to their team. This role will be responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting function ensuring efficient and effective control, timely and accurate general ledger financial reporting, comprehensive risk management and various special projects.

About the Opportunity

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all routine aspects of the accounting function including oversight of all general ledger transaction processing cycles: Revenue & receivables, revenue recognition, billing and collections support
  • Purchasing & payables: Supplier invoices, employee expense reports and credit cards
  • Payroll & benefits: Semi-monthly payroll, health and dental benefits administration and post-retirement benefits administration
  • Accruals & prepayments: Vacation & bonuses, insurances and IT
  • Fixed asset accounting: Asset register / continuity schedule and depreciation and amortization
  • Regularly assess accounting processes and internal control systems, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes that increase management and internal controls and efficiency  (i.e. reduce risk while promoting a more nimble and responsive organization.)
  • Oversee the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts monthly, reporting results to the Director of Finance
  • Draft company policies insofar as required to support effective process and control
  • Participate in the maintenance of a company risk register and project manage risk mitigation strategies
  • Maintain corporate insurance policies, and other corporate contracts
  • Administration of online banking tools; Selection and implementation of appropriate services, management of changes to bank signatories / online banking users, daily cash receipt reporting and weekly cash flow reporting
  • Monitor problem / aged A/R and A/P issues, and G/L and job / engagement issues, addressing escalated items (i.e. A/R collections)
  • Make recommendations for improving working capital management considering: Accounts receivable (DSO optimization), WIP / accrued income, client deposits / advance billings, client holdbacks and Supplier holdbacks
  • Prepare and file provincial sales tax returns making remittances as required, review payroll tax reconciliations before submission / remittance, review all corporate income tax reporting (prepared by external accountants), making remittances as required
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and cost-line and balance sheet variance analysis for review / approval of Director of Finance (as required) and communication to staff with financial responsibilities
  • Oversee the preparation of annual financial statements and required supporting schedules coordinating with external accountants / auditors as required
  • Work collaboratively with the project accounting function overseen by the Operations Manager with regards to matters of shared responsibility (e.g. billing, direct cost accounting, labour cost accounting)
  • Manage a team of 1-2 to achieve the above
  • Interact with external clients in order to deliver client files/work. Communication is transactional in nature; and role is not responsible for client relationships
  • Interacts with external auditors, tax advisors, consultants, and clients in order to provide explanations or advice

About You

  • CPA or CPA close to completion
  • 5 years of relevant business experience
  • Corporate accounting experience from a related industry
  • Advanced Excel skills

Salary Range

$90,000 - $95,000/year
