Our client is a public college of applied arts and technology. They are looking for a Director of Financial Planning to plan and implement budgetary controls, maintains budget records, provides ongoing information to College administrators/managers

About the Opportunity

  • Oversees the process for development of budget and financial reporting functions including performance metrics, forecasting, etc.
  • Prepares timely and accurate monthly/quarterly/annual financial results and related journal entries
  • Analyses and reports on variances from budget or forecasts; identifying and recommending strategies for corrective action to address / rectify deviations from operating, capital and project budgets
  • Oversees the preparation and filing of required government reports
  • Prepares monthly reports and presentations for senior management and the Board of Governors
  • Drives improved performance in the business through creating and promoting enhanced reporting and measurement tools
  • Prepares relevant financial analysis as requested by senior management
  • Works closely with IT to ensure that financial systems are aligned with Business Intelligence tools and other internal databases/systems
  • Leads the process and preparation of annual operating budgets and forecasts
  • Facilitates the allocation of direct costs to academic and service areas
  • Works closely with the budget holders to ensure data accuracy and integrity; investigates potential issues and provides solutions in a timely and efficient manner
  • Develops excellent working relationships with internal stakeholders while providing financial expertise and analysis that will support the achievement of business objectives
  • Assists in securing additional financing and development of growth opportunities
  • Prepares, implements and monitors appropriate procedures and controls with respect to budgeting and funds available
  • Collaborates with cross functional teams to ensure efficient and effective financial processes are in place, ensuring adequate internal controls are maintained
  • Implements process/continuous improvement strategies across financial planning and the College
  • Provides decision support analysis to identify issues, opportunities and emerging trends for the College
  • Prepares analytical program costing reports on all post-secondary programs
  • Provides input into the decision-making of the College with respect to programs which may qualify for revitalization or rationalization due to financial inefficiencies
  • Provides College-wide analysis on projected contribution targets and costing analysis on academic programs, special projects, and various other funding proposals for the Chief Financial Officer
  • Completes individual costing models for proposed programs and advises on potential program viability during the program development process
  • Performs ad hoc analysis for specific projects identifying weak areas for future review
  • Produces detailed analysis on historical data and future projections to provide trend reporting to Chief Financial Officer
  • Serves as the College’s primary resource for the College Millennium FAST budgeting and financial reporting system
  • Responsible for the ongoing financial integrity of the college budgeting and financial reporting system
  • Provides guidance, recommendations and implementation leadership for technologies/software relating to the financial planning and analytical reporting services of the college
  • In conjunction with the Controller liaises with IT staff concerning the College budgeting and financial reporting system to ensure system changes to the Banner and Millennium FAST financial system maintain system and financial integrity
  • Plays a key role in the Finance team, ensuring work life balance, influencing and overseeing the performance and development of Financial Planning staff
  • Mentors and educates staff on effective processes, controls and best practices related to financial analysis
  • Manages special projects and analysis as requested by and required for the organization

About You

  • CPA
  • 7+ years finance/accounting experience, including budgets and financial modelling
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience at the managerial level

Salary Range

$130,000 - $137,000/year
