About the Company

Our client is located in Markham Ontario, and they are looking for a Director of Applications to join their team.

About the Opportunity

  • You will work closely with the senior leaders, plan and strategize development plans with respect to applications systems
  • You will prepare reports and provide recommendations on IT plans and initiatives to senior stakeholders
  • You will develop and present formal business cases for proposed system enhancements or replacements
  • You will help and lead the charge to identify, evaluate, and recommend commercially available applications to support operational strategy
  • Develop, revise, and administer internal IT policies with the guidance of the CIO
  • You will continue to establish IT service standards and indicators
  • Manage a portfolio of software applications
  • Coordinate projects priorities, timelines, and resources allocation with multiple stakeholders
  • You will negotiate and maintain service level agreement contracts with external vendors
  • Develop and lead continuous improvement of IS initiatives
  • Maintain IS Change Management Standards
  • Facilitate and troubleshoot issues related to the clients’ applications
  • You will act as a lead to ensure the delivery of all projects
  • Develop policies and procedures for system applications ensuring compliance to business standards
  • Provide support to a variety of stakeholders ensuring information needs are met
  • Oversee the development and implementation of system enhancements and solutions to meet ongoing business and user needs
  • Identify staff with strong leadership potential and actively support them in self-development
  • Provide education and development opportunities within IS Team
  • Facilitate and maintain team development and build team-work culture
  • Set performance expectation of new IS staff and manage staff performance issues
  • Interview and select team members and oversee their orientation/training
  • Manage the budget
  • Coach and mentor team members
  • Number of direct reports and titles: 4
  • Number of indirect reports and titles: 15

About You

  • A Degree in Computer Science with a Masters highly desired
  • A minimum of 15 years progressive information technology experience in a similar role
  • Extensive experience working in and support a Microsoft environment with O365 and ALL attendance tools
  • Experience managing a team of up to 20 staff
  • A broad knowledge base of current technology is required (list of technologies will be shared with successful candidates who move to the client interview)
  • A thorough understanding of both technical and business issues involved with developing and bringing to market technology products/solutions is required
  • Experience in leadership and supervision of IT staff is required
  • The ability to quickly diagnose and respond to emergency failures is required
  • Advanced written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills are required
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring is required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvements in business processes is required
  • Excellent project management skills and experience are required
  • PMI or Agile management certifications are an asset
