About the Opportunity
  • Reviewing, approving, and sometimes analyzing and reconciling certain balance sheet accounts, including but not limited to, provision accounts, Deferred Revenue, Investments, and Fixed Asset accounts, as well as ensuring that reconciling items are cleared in a timely manner
  • Reviewing, approving, and sometimes preparing and entering certain month-end journal entries and support schedules
  • Assisting with period-end closing procedures, including but not limited to ensuring the integration of the subledgers into the General Ledger are accurately completed
  • Maintaining the fixed asset sub-ledger ensuring that assets are correctly recorded
  • Preparing HST returns and other government filings
  • Working closely with Financial Analysts, Accounts Receivable team, and Accounts Payable team to ensure that all revenue and expenses are recorded in an accurate and timely manner
  • Manage and coach junior accountants to optimize productivity, while developing their skills and team engagement
  • Preparation of monthly, and annual balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statements and performing relevant analysis
  • Supporting the annual financial statement audit, including providing supporting documentation, reconciliations, and answering questions
  • Setting-up and maintaining new general ledger accounts, item codes, and tax codes in both the Accounting System and Salesforce
  • Working with the Director of Finance to analyze and recommend accounting policies
  • Recommending and participating in the implementation of accounting system and other process improvement initiatives
  • Ad hoc projects as needed in supporting other accounting functions as well as participating on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Oversee direct reports, ensuring that company goals and objectives are being met
  • Process improvement within the department and providing ongoing recommendations to leadership

About You
  • Must have a post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting and a CPA designation
  • A minimum of 4-6 years of prior work experience as an Accountant with demonstrated business and accounting experience. Experience managing staff is an asset
  • Knowledge of ASPE (Knowledge of ASNPO would be an asset)
  • Knowledge of the compliance requirements for not-for-profit entities is an asset
  • A high degree of sensitivity and professionalism is required with respect to the management of confidential information
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Office 365 are required; experience with VBA and Power BI is an asset
  • Prior experience working with accounting systems is required
  •  Experience with system implementation and process improvement is an asset
  • Experience with database applications such as Dynamics CRM and/or Salesforce is preferred
  • Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and with employees at all levels
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Proven experience leading a team and providing an engaging and productive work environment
  • Proven attention to accuracy and detail
