About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Finance, we are searching for an Assistant Controller who will be responsible for leading our accounting team and overseeing all accounting activities of the Company, such as month-end close and financial reporting, accounts payable and cost reporting, revenues and receivables, and payroll. You will develop a deep understanding of the business, as you will be required to partner with all departments, as well as play an active role in establishing and improving internal processes and financial controls. You will need to be adaptable to frequent changes in priorities, while being flexible to deadlines with short lead times. Responsibilities include:

Manage all aspects of the day-to-day accounting function, including:

  • Mentoring and leading an accounting team that currently consists of 3 individuals
  • Overseeing the accounts payable and cost reporting functions
  • Reviewing and approving vendor payments, journal entries, account reconciliations, and payroll
  • Developing systems to manage inventory across each of our distribution facilities
  • Continuously improving our accounting and financial reporting functions across the business
  • Developing and ensuring compliance with internal controls
  • Other ad-hoc financial analysis as required

Oversee the month-end close and financial reporting processes, including:

  • Ensuring completeness and accuracy of revenues and receivables
  • Working with the procurement and fulfillment teams to align monthly and weekly cost reporting processes, and ensuring accuracy of inventories, accruals, and expenses
  • Working with the marketing team to align monthly and weekly cost reporting, and ensuring accuracy of accruals, prepaids, and expenses
  • Reviewing and approving monthly payroll and HST reporting requirements
  • Preparing reliable and accurate month end reports and analysis
  • Analyzing period over period fluctuations and provide insightful commentary of key business drivers; respond timely to inquiries through research and analysis
  • Coordinating and executing on quarterly review and year-end audit requirements
  • Assisting in the monthly budget and annual business planning process

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting
  • CPA,CA designation and prior experience with an accounting firm
  • Minimum of 4 years progressive accounting experience, ideally including 3-5 years in a top public accounting firm and 1-2 years in a mid to large sized company (over $50m revenue)
  • You have demonstrated the ability to mentor and manage a team, and have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS principles and tax requirements
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, etc.) required. Familiarity with Oracle is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Your attention to detail is renowned
  • Able to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines

Salary Range

$105,000 - $115,000/year
