Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accountant will be primarily responsible for preparing and maintaining monthly general ledger reconciliations, performing financial analyses and assisting with month-end requirements specifically related to the Commercial Finance business and Asset Backed Secularization (ABS). This is a 9 month contract role in support of a maternity leave.

About the Opportunity

  • Responsible for the accuracy of Commercial Finance business Accounting transactions; working with the Commercial Finance and IT teams to ensure that all the transactions flowing through from the Commercial Finance application are correctly reflected in the general ledger system
  • Assisting with the preparation of ABS reports to management and trusts, while ensuring the accuracy and reasonableness of the information provided; perform analysis to validate or justify unusual business trends or trigger events; validate ABS entries flowing from sub-ledger to the general ledger for accuracy
  • Other responsibilities include confirming and accounting for inter-company transactions, internal and external loans, swaps entered into and other operational processes such as fixed assets and operational and wholesale bank reconciliations
  • For all the above tasks, incumbent is also responsible to perform monthly reconciliations, process journal entries and facilitate in audits throughout the year to ensure compliance with IFRS and ASPE and requirements set in ABS Trust Agreements
  • Incumbent will also be assisting in the implementation of new/upgraded applications and projects relating to the role

About You

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in Accounting required
  • University degree or equivalent work experience
  • Accounting designation or actively working towards Accounting designation preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proven analytical, research and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills, in particular Microsoft Excel
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Pay Rate

$24 - $27/hour
