About the Opportunity

  • The Accountant reports to the Controller and is responsible for providing financial, administrative and clerical services. 
  • These services include preparing journal entries, maintaining schedules, ledgers, and account/ bank reconciliations. The Accountant assists the Controller with offshore posting, reconciliation and monthly accruals, account analysis and in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance department. Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner will ensure that finances are accurate and up to date
  • Job is frequently varied and may include new or unique work situations of moderate diversity with occasional periods of highly complex work  
  • Duties are performed with only general direction and work is checked or verified in general terms over extended periods of time
  • Decisions are made within general Company policy constraints. Errors in judgment can cause slow-downs or work stoppages resulting in late deliveries, added costs, cause loss of revenues/profits and adversely affect Company image

Primary Duties:

  • Reconcile and maintain bank accounts
  • Monitor and resolve bank issues including deposit/payment/wire transfers
  • Maintain overall responsibility for accounts payable of offshore vendors
  • Prepare wire payment, bill payment on a weekly basis
  • Prepare bi-weekly vendor payment schedule according to cash flow, aging and purchasing needs
  • Process offshore and domestic supplier invoices, utilities, and various other expenses
  • Set up new vendors and apply credit terms
  • Respond to inquiries from external and internal sources
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of the annual audit process
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures

Secondary Duties:

  • Provide backup support to functions performed by other accounting personnel
  • Assist in preparing cash forecast and monitor adequacy of cash flow

About You

  • Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week, especially during peak activity periods.
  • Oral Communication – effectively communicate in groups and individual settings, representing the Company appropriately to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Written Communication – ability to convey Company goals and objectives in written form using standard business format for internal and external communications
  • General - The highest level of ethical communication must be maintained. Internal contacts may include staff in our Design, Product Development, Purchasing, Materials Research, Distribution and Customer Service departments.  External contacts may include representatives of our Vendors, Bank, Auditors and Customers. Interactions focus on information exchange and problem solving
  • Frequently initiates own contact with 80 - 90% being by phone/email and the remainder via face to face interaction
  • Contracts frequently contain confidential/sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times, and may include sensitive personnel, quality, costing and production information
  • Receive and disseminate information as required
  • Ability to make high level business decisions on behalf of the Company
  • Ensure all Company needs and concerns are identified and effectively addressed and closed
  • College diploma/ University degree
  • Sound knowledge of IFRS accounting principles and practices and Canadian federal and provincial taxation laws
  • 3-5 years accounts payable and accounting experience preferably in textiles, manufacturing or related industries

Pay Rate

$45,000-$50,000/year
